Big Art SF

In 2024, the Sijbrandij Foundation launched its Big Art SF initiative to support public art, recognizing its power to inspire and connect people. Sid and Karen Sijbrandij have long admired big art and monumental structures, with their power to awe viewers and create a shared experience. Big art describes sculptures that are larger than humans, typically over 10 feet (3 meters) in height. Today, big art can be found in art festivals like Burning Man, in creative communities like Art City, and in cities around the world, including San Francisco.

With ongoing collaborations and projects planned for 2025 and beyond, the foundation is actively working to enhance San Francisco’s shared spaces in ways that reflect its diverse and vibrant culture.

Submissions

We are currently seeking existing works of big art—monumental sculptures (10 feet and taller)—to be considered for inclusion in upcoming installations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The foundation’s vision is to place 100 sculptures over the next three years, working in collaboration with key civic agencies.

This is an opportunity to have your work featured as part of this emerging program. This program is open to all artists, regardless of background, experience level, or location. We encourage artists from historically underrepresented backgrounds and neighborhoods to apply.
